BACKGROUND:
CalVet currently operates five Veterans Homes of
California
located in Yountville
(Napa County),
Barstow
(San Bernardino County),
Chula
Vista (San Diego County),
Lancaster
(
Los Angeles
County
) and
Ventura
(
Ventura
County
). CalVet is currently
constructing a veterans home in West Los Angeles and has began working
with contractors for building veterans homes in Fresno (Fresno County) and
Redding (Shasta County).
The
Veterans Home of
California
–
Redding
will cost approximately $88 million to design and construct, will have 150
beds, and employ approximately 244 permanent employees.
